The blast of brutally cold air hasn't yet enveloped the New York City region -- but it's already wreaking havoc with flights.
Earlier Monday, Jet Blue announced that as of 5pm, it would cancel all departing flights out of New York's three main airports -- Newark, JFK, LaGuardia Airport -- as well as in Boston. (Those airports will still be accepting Jet Blue arrivals.)
"We intend to be 100% operational by 3 p.m. ET on Tuesday," reads the airline's press release. "This plan allows for 17 hours of rest for crews, and time for Tech Ops to service the aircraft."
Over 4,000 flights were cancelled Monday and over 10,000 were delayed.
The Port Authority, which operates New York's airports, says it has additional crews in place to make sure runways and taxiways remain clear throughout the night and into Tuesday morning.
